This is a novel based on the true story of Prince Zhu Su, the fifth son of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of Ming Dynasty (the fourth longest dynasty in China). Instead of putting his mind to gain more power on the political stage, Zhu Su made up his mind to become a Chinese medicine and herbal scientist. As a prince who was supposed to enjoy a luxurious and happy life, Zhu Su was instead seemingly destined to meet with the emperors' suspicion, punishments, prisons, exiles, and even death threats. However, all of these obstacles did not imply his enthusiasm in health and medical sciences, to help people to get proper health and life. And eventually, to create a work that was highly appreciated by famous scholars from China, Japan, Europe and United States. This is a work of fictionalized biography about a real historical figure. Most of the parts are really in history, but there are some parts that are pure fiction. Some characters, the plot premise, and certain sections of the story are based on historical events and figures, but considerable artistic license is employed. Names, characters, businesses, places, events, locales, and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner.
